Repeat Prescriptions

If your doctor agrees,  you may obtain repeat prescriptions by giving the surgery 5 working days  notice.

The exceptions to this are controlled drugs which require 48 hours notice and if a patient is over using medication.

Patients on long-term medication can order repeat prescriptions in a number of ways:

By Email - NEWCCG.royaldockspractice@nhs.net

In person - drop your repeat slip (attached to your previous prescription) into the surgery with the required items clearly marked.

By post - send it to us enclosing a stamped addressed envelope if you want it posted back to you.

By Internet - You can order your repeat medication over the Internet. To use this facility, you will need to complete and follow the link at the top of this page if you have been given log in details by the practice and complete a simple registration.

NHS Pharmacy Services

Dispense Prescriptions

Pharmacies can dispense both NHS and Private prescriptions. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your medication, the pharmacist is available to help.

Advice for Self Care

You can ask your pharmacist and trained health care staff for advice on how to treat a minor ailment, managing a long term condition or the details of a help or support group. Where the pharmacist cannot help you will be referred  to the appropriate health care professional or organisation.

Click here for information about the "Pharmacy First Scheme" for minor ailments.

Safe Disposal of Medicines

If you have any unwanted or expired medicines you should not try to dispose of them yourself, just bring them into the pharmacy where they can safely be disposed of.

Emergency Contraception Supply

If you require the morning after pill, an assessment for the eligibility and appropriateness will be carried out first and if a supply is made it will be at no charge.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC On-line

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.

Controlled Drugs

Changes to Controlled Drug Prescriptions (CD)

All Controlled Drug Prescriptions (CD) will now automatically be processed electronically for patients who use EPS for their existing prescriptions. Meaning if your routine medications are sent to straight to the pharmacy and you are receiving a CD medication, this will also be sent straight to the pharmacy, with the exception of Liquid CD's.

If you collect paper prescriptions from the surgery you will still need to collect them from reception, CD drugs will also need to be collected from reception and signed for in the usual way.

If you require further clarification please contact the surgery on 020 75114466.
